Step by step
Step by step
Ten steps, in three stages. Each explains who takes part, what to do and what comes out of it.
Before the event · a few weeks before the event
a few weeks before the event
Step 1 of 10: Choose the place and the event
Who takes part You
What to do A closed public place and an event bringing people to the same town.
The result: a place and an event
a few weeks before the event
Step 2 of 10: Keys and permissions
Who takes part You, whoever holds the keys, the organisers and, if needed, a human custodian
What to do Permission to open during the event and leave the QR code on the door. Agreement to join the programme. If supervision is needed, at least one local person agrees to help; otherwise, visits are self-service. An email is enough.
The result: written agreements
a few weeks before the event
Step 3 of 10: Gather the Genesis
Who takes part You, with your sources
What to do What the place used to be, when it closed, three to five photos. A source for every detail. What is unknown stays unknown: the custode makes nothing up.
The result: a page of memories
a few weeks before the event
Step 4 of 10: Submit the place
Who takes part You, using the form
What to do Describe the place with photos and a map location, choose an event from the list and name people who can help.
The result: the association receives your proposal
a few weeks before the event
Step 5 of 10: The custode is created
Who takes part Rural Pop-up Events APS
What to do We check the three agreements and the sources, create the custode and test it with you. It is not public yet.
The result: the custode and its QR code
a few weeks before the event
Step 6 of 10: Prepare the kit
Who takes part You and the organisers
What to do Download the kit for the published place. Print the signs and cards, test the QR with your phone and share it in the event programme and on social media.
The result: the place is ready
During the event · the days of the event
the days of the event
Step 7 of 10: The place opens
Who takes part Everyone
What to do The place is open to visitors, like an open house, with or without a human custodian. Almost empty: a sofa, a few things from its past, paper notes. Visitors write an idea, leave a contact or offer to help, and scan the QR code.
The result: memories, ideas and contacts, on paper and in chat
the days of the event
Step 8 of 10: The door closes again
Who takes part The human custodians
What to do The “Chat with the custode” sign goes on the door. Handwritten notes are transcribed into the custode.
The result: a closed door that keeps talking
After the event · weeks, months
weeks, months
Step 9 of 10: The custode keeps working
Who takes part The custode and human custodians
What to do The custode talks with passers-by and people far away. Human custodians receive simple questions (yes, no, perhaps), the best ideas go on the board and people offering help are contacted. A summary arrives every Monday.
The result: verified memories, voted-on ideas, people to meet
weeks, months
Step 10 of 10: Someone believes in it
Who takes part Those who want to bring it back to life, with whoever holds the keys
What to do They meet in person. A public place is only awarded through a municipal public call, which may already exist or come later: until the award, nobody is its manager, and the custode is there to find capable people ready to take part. If the place reopens, an “Open again” sign goes on the door.
The result: a living place, with its memories
Finish
You have seen every step
Digital tools prepare and extend human encounters. The rest happens in person: with whoever holds the keys, the organisers and local residents.
